THE Burton Mail Home at Christmas? appeal on behalf of Burton and District YMCA has been boosted by £500 thanks to a Swadlincote restaurant.

News - Stefan Kucharzewski, Jo Kucharzewski, Gillian Cox and Dave Ryder, commercial and marketing assistant for Burton YMCAThe Yard bar and restaurant, in Belmont Street, held a ‘Full Length and Fabulous’ evening to mark the sixth anniversary of the opening of the venue.

Owners Jo and Stefan Kucharzewski were looking to support a local charity and chose Burton and District YMCA as it prepares to redevelop part of James Court into the Reconnect project for local homeless people.

The Yard made a £5 donation from every ticket sold and organised a raffle which increased the total raised to £500.

On the night guests enjoyed champagne upon arrival, hot finger food was served throughout and bacon butties along with a further glass of champagne were served at midnight.

There were two live musicians and an opportunity to dance the night away.

Jo Kucharzewski said: “It was the first time we had held an event as glamorous as this and it was great to get such a positive reaction from our regulars and many new faces. We laid out the red carpet to welcome everyone and the paparazzi have some very interesting photos taken at the event.”

Gillian Cox, appeals co-ordinator for the Burton and District YMCA, said: “I would like to thank everyone who attended and helped to contribute this amount to the appeal. I was there at the evening and it was good to see people having such a good time while raising funds for the YMCA. I am delighted and hope to get the opportunity to work with Jo and Stefan at the Yard in the future.”

A final total for the Mail’s Home at Christmas? appeal will be announced before Christmas and anyone who wishes to donate is asked to visit www.viginmoneygiving.com

Anyone wanting to donate directly to the campaign can send a cheque made payable to Life Change Fund to Burton and District YMCA, 5 Borough Road, Burton, DE14 2DA or by visiting the Royal Bank of Scotland, 38/41 Station Street, Burton, DE14 1AX and making a donation.
